Long Island Herald – Tepper named 40 under 40

Gordon Tepper, the city’s senior communications and policy director, has been named to the SUNY New Paltz 40 under 40 class of 2019, a prestigious award that honors SUNY New Paltz alumni under the age of 40.

The finalists were selected from a diverse pool of nearly 200 nominees, spanning a multitude of career fields including the arts, science, education, technology, medicine, media, and government. Honorees were nominated by their peers and faculty members and selected for their achievements in their careers and communities selected by a committee composed of representatives from the College’s senior administration, alumni leadership, and faculty. The awards dinner will take place on Friday, June 7 at Novellas in New Paltz, NY.

“Our alumni are showing the world that SUNY New Paltz graduates are ambitious, innovative, passionate and highly motivated leaders in their fields,” said Shana Circe, director of alumni relations. “They are making significant impact in their professional communities, and we are very proud of their achievements.”

In addition to previously serving as a director of public relations in both government and higher education, Tepper has led marketing and communications efforts for Long Island and New York City-based professional service firms. He has also taught undergraduate courses at Hofstra’s school of communication.

“I still look back fondly on my time in New Paltz, and the public relations internship I had with the New York Rangers while I was a student helped lay the foundation for my career,” said Tepper. “Being recognized by the alumni association is truly an honor, and I’m looking forward to the event in June.”

Tepper’s media relations efforts have led to featured stories in such publications as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg Businessweek. He has also facilitated interviews with all of the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN). Additionally, he has helped his clients and employers secure several distinguished accolades, including Best Places to Work in New York City (Crain’s New York Business), Best Companies to Work for in New York State (SHRM), Best Beaches in the United States (USA Today), America’s Cleanest Beaches (Newsweek), and Innovative Firm of the Year (Leading Edge Alliance).

Previously, Tepper was named to the Long Island Business News 40 under 40, and he is a former recipient of the Achievement in Communications award from the International Association for Business Communicators. Tepper earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the State University of New York in 2002 and a Master of Science in Education from Hofstra University in 2004. He is a lifelong resident of Long Beach, currently living in the canals with his wife, Anne, and their son, Martin.
